In the preliminary task we had to make short 30 second video of a conversation and aperson walking. In it we had to use different techniques such as shot-reverse-shot, 180 degree rule, match on action and continuity. This task was more to show us what we had to do in our proper project and how to edit. Our preliminary task was paced on a police interigation. 

In our full product we had to make the first two minutes of a movie. Our movie was about a boxer who had to come back and start fighting again after his wife was killed. This let use many things we learnt in the process of making the video for our preliminary task. We used things such as shot-reverse-shot and 180 degree rule, we also got to use editing techniques we learnt such as jumpcuts and close ups.

Through the process of making our full project i did see how at times we applied what we had learnt in the preliminary task to our film. Looking back i feel like i learnt a lot from the preliminary exercise for both filming and editing. I feel that if i wouldn't have been able to do the preliminary task the full product would have definitely not been as good as it was. We also improved many of our skills as in the film we had things such as music, voiceover and titles which we had to learn how to add. This was because our preliminary task looked at just simpl3 things while the final product needs many more things in it. Overall the end product i thing turned out good and looked like we imagined it.

What media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The media intuition we chose for realise our movie through is soda pictures. Soda pictures also known as Thunderbird realising is private film distributor in London but has also got parts in places like Canada. It specialises in arthouse, independent and work cinema. It was established in 2002 by Eve Gabereau and Edward Fletcher.

Soda pictures is a good choice because our movie has storyline that has all ready been distributed by some of the bigger film companies. Big conglomerates would want to only distribute well made movies with well known actors and producers who have made many movies. Soda pictures however have realised many dramas which our movie is part of while they haven't relisted many sport movies i believe this will make them reload our movie. This is because it would stick to their usual drama paced movies it would also let them branch out to new people by adding sports to the movie. 

The difference between realising a movie with a small institution compared to realising it with a big company does show in the quality of the movie. The budget for our film was really low which is usual for movies distbuted by small companies. This is often because the movies are produced using unknown actors who won't bring in a lot of money. 

Some of the movies relised by soda pictures/ Thunderbird realising are Night Moves(2013), The riot club(2014) and Paterson(2015).

Night moves(2013) is an American drama that looks at three guys that want to blow up a dam as they are environmentalist.

The riot club(2014) is a British drama it is about a fictional all-male group in Oxford university and how some have more power.

Paterson(2015) is about a married couple who both want their dreams to come through but are struggling with poverty.

I’m Max Carter. I’m training for my first fight since the killing of my wife Lucy 6 months ago. She was killed because of this fight and this fight will prove I’m back. This is for her. This win will be to make her proud. She was my biggest fan and my best friend.  

My trainer is the best in the game. She can make me win this fight.

We chose this first location to film our film due to the fact that it is in a gym which has punching bags and boxing equipment so this allows us to film a good quality boxing training scene.

We chose this second location because it is a quiet street so we won’t be interrupted and we will be able to film with little distractions.

Conventional Storyline

Conventions of boxing movie storyline

Boxing movies have been around for a long time. Improving over the years, at the beginning they were mostly just the boxer and his fights however now the boxer usually has a reason for boxing. The usual reasons being such as dad being a boxer and the son wants to follow the dads footsteps, often the boxer is fighting for his dead girlfriend or someone that was close to them.
Most of the movie is just the boxer fighting for the big fight at the end and showing flashbacks from his past. Many of the flashbacks are events that create the story of why the many character became a boxer. This allows the viewer to feel as if they have bonded with the main character and feel almost the same feelings the character is. The storyline's are often similar, the man falls in love, something happens to the woman, the man begins to fight and then wins his final match and feels as if thye made the person they loved proud.
